Speaking
Fear,
Such a silly word.
Courage,
Something I never had.
Living and breathing,
Never doing as I pleased.
Terrified to speak,
Always weak in the knees.
Never knew how to say,
The thoughts that I held.
Never knew how to show,
The emotions I felt.
Wanting to be friendly,
Wanting to be kind,
Wanting to be happy,
And wanting to be alive.
Senior year,
I've had enough.
Longing overcame the fear,
I had felt so silly.
I spoke.
I spoke in class,
I spoke to friends,
I gave my opinion.
I was alive at last.
