To Speak

I see her sitting still.

Alone.

Her scuffed shoes weighing heavy on her heart.

No one speaks and she is trapped,

Solitude her sole companion.

They dance by, laughing, talking,

Unaware of her lonely being,

Who crawls home every night

And creates an ocean of tears into her pillow,

Alone in the world.

They cannot see how simple it is

To fall into the rush,

To fight unknown battles,

To be speechless, yet have so much to say.

Silenced by the norm

They do not see the value in

Hello.

How are you?

You look beautiful today.

I want to fight the silence,

To break from the cage of fear and insecurity,

The taboo that surrounds honest, friendly interaction

I want to know the world and the world to know me.

I want to see smiles where there used to be frowns,

To know I inspired that change.

The world is big, yet we make ourselves small,

Limiting the the depths of our reach.

To know more people, experience foreign cultures,

To bask in the glow of new knowledge and connections,

Makes me feel whole.

Makes me feel strong.

Makes me feel happy.

Makes me feel flawless.
