Sonnet #12 (Why I Write Poetry)

Shall fires and storms rage ignored in my mind,

Unnoted, wreaking havoc, just to fade?

Shall flowers of romance ne’er water find,

And dry ere they assume their lovely shade?

Equations can’t describe my past love’s eyes,

And her soft touch they will fail to capture.

Cold numbers won’t gauge heartbreak stemmed from lies,

Nor from the sight of stars fashion rapture.

But poems will save each fleeting moment sweet,

Each twinkling star, each moment of each tryst.

Shall I not share my flushed cheeks and heartbeat,

Proving, through feeling, that I live, not just exist?

No, I rhyme to give truest testament,

To a life full lived and time worthwhile spent.
