So Sad the Fate
So sad the fate of lovers be
Especially the two
Who lived by the sea
He was a poor sailor
And she was his lass
They loved one another
But not long did it last
Her father had sworn her
And not did she know
That soon to be wed
When melted the snow
The two lovers embraced in one last kiss
To even be there
Was such a great risk
And there they promised to be unto thee
And that one future day
They’d marry under that tree
Her father did tell her the fate that she had
She couldn’t speak
She couldn’t be sad
Instead she took the rope from around
And went to the tree
And fell with no sound
And there her lover did see
Her slow moving body
Hung from the tree
He mourned and cried out to all that he knew
He prayed that the Lord
Would take him too
So he pulled out his knife and plunged it in deep
Hoping the good Lord
Would his soul to keep
Her parents did find them under the tree
And wailed and lamented
And showed all their grief
There they buried the two together
So after life
They’d lie there forever
Finally in death they do remain
Forever in love
They’ll always feel the same
And when you pass the great tree by
If you listen
You’ll hear their spirits cry
“We died for love and do not regret
For together we remain
An eternity we’ll spend”
