The Snow Effect

Location

My teacher once told me

The snow absorbs sound

And that is why in winter

When the air is cold

And comes out in puffs

The world is silent

And any sound is muffled

By a heavy crystal blanket

And that is why in winter

When the sun glints

And gives the snow a gleam

Like metal or a precious stone

We feel the need to whisper

As if afraid to be the noise

That shatters the peace

And that is why in winter

When the wind wisps a little softer

And falters on its path

The dogs bark less

And the squeals of children

Seem farther away

Because the snow absorbs sound

Or so my teacher told me
