Shadows

Sometimes long and thin

Seen on the outside ad hidden within

Other times long and wide

Almost transparent to the naked eye

It casts a darkness that lingers

But you can't touch it with your fingers

Following close by

It is the part of you that can fly

It can hide the things you don't want to be seen

Suppressing secrets and feelings few and far between

Covering a certain part of your heart

So those who hurt  you cannot tear you completely apart

Hiding half of your face

Or part of your life you can't erase

Mysterious and dark

It won't even give off a spark

As a child the dark scared you

But now it is a comfort and a joy too

Standing in the shadows of your life

In an effort to hide from the lies and strife

Shadows, chasing us wherever we go

In the pouring rain and freezing snow

All our lives they are there

Trailing behind us and will never disappear
