Shade & Tricky Topics

Everyone seems to be passionate

about the same things.

There is an endless list titled “in need of change”

and

I’d like to believe

that I’m not the only individual

who takes time to contemplate

how the world works

and

how wrong

some things are

But if you think long enough

from no one’s

point of view

Maybe you’ll come to believe

that there is no individual

who will ever rightfully judge

how the world works

and

what is

right or wrong

I take state standardized tests

that carry questions about

Clinton getting a blow job and who Bill Gates is

but

there are teachers who have

been a blessing and taught me

exactly

who i want to be

and

I have to justify my wardrobe

if I show more skin

than the social norm dictates

but

I am a part of society so a part of society

must

agree with me

and

I am treated differently

because I am a minority; sympathy

in lieu of disgust amidst the eyes of “real” americans

but

I keep in mind my white, weathered neighbors

who have watched me grow

and have

never

offended me

There is an endless list titled “in need of change”

and

I’d like to believe

that I’m not the only individual

who has come to my only conclusion:

Black and white do

not exist.

Right and wrong

are just infinitely complicated shades

of a color that does

not exist.
