Who ever thought that a little red string,
No thicker than the thread in my shirt,
Could withstand the strength of passion
And all the other forms of a relationship?
Who ever thought that this little string could
Stretch distances unimaginable to the human mind?
Inches, feet, miles, kilometers:
No distance seems too far.
It holds up in the barren times,
Through periods of anguish
And nights of restless loneliness.
It stays fresh and new each time that it is stricken,
And it boggles me how nothing seems to break it off.
Not any disagreements.
Nor any moments of awkwardness.
Not even when outsiders seem to question the validity of it.
I have never known a strength like this.
But I am glad that it is here.
Because without it,
I wouldn't have the love of my life -
My soulmate -
