Surely all we humans

will accomplish splendid feats.

And when we die,

our mourners will fill up the chapel seats.

But soon, and not long after,

when those mourners all have passed,

we realize

our so-thought splendid feats on Earth don’t last.

It’s hard for men to leave this life

without a legacy,

but begging for remembrance

is a rather worldly plea.

I can accept being lost with time,

but others, they cannot.

It’s bothered men before them, too.

But who?  Seems we forgot.
