Prom Thereafter

Location

I didn't feel 70 miles per hour

I felt 50

Maybe slower

I watched them pair off

In twos

Hugging the world away

Like we knew what it means

The faces dropped

When nobody was looking

As in queue as on call

Battered smiles fell to the floor

And rose petal dressed ripped - as they do

Arguements fell drunk and nervous

We took off the layers protecting us

Those that your friends saw

For a few split seconds

The mix of it felt right

Right now was right now

And college wasn't a thing

And pain didn't hurt

And parents weren't disappointed

And nobody expected nothing

And

And the longer I cried

With BOTH of my eyes

Something made sense

But nothing makes sense

We're just rolling around -

For God's sake

I'm not supposed to see

This part of you
