“Pretty Ribbons, Pretty Bows”

By Tricia Anklam

Pretty ribbons, pretty bows

My life will be great
Yeah, um, no

I was told I couldn’t do it anymore.

“You won’t be able to reach what you are looking for.”

I fought to persevere through

I couldn’t do it though

I wanted to give up

I was stuck in the midst of the storm

No more.

Their thoughts in my head

I will not let

The light radiates through.

I had someone,

Someone worth fighting for,

But they weren’t there anymore

The insults, the put-downs, the excuses

I was constantly fighting but

They wouldn’t go away

The restless nights

The countless battles

I was done

It was over

But with the power of God everything reversed.
