Ponderings

I wonder if the other tired eyes
hang low like their hearts because past lovers
are in the past and the future moves
fast,
so fast.

I wonder if their lives are mocked by dreams
or if their eyes are so tired because
they’ve just been awake for too long.

I wonder if they wonder if anyone will ever watch
their movements and idiosyncrasies,
because that is all they really want;
someone to love the little things they do, the silly quirks of our being.

So I’ll fall asleep in a land so distant
from the one I wanted all along,
but distance is unimportant; our thoughts travel the same speed.
I’ll close my tired eyes and dream to be awake.
