Points for participation

Go- fight on the front lines.
Sacrifice, bleed, die.
Go- protest, march, scream,
For your rights.
Participate in this America.
Built on the backs of a people we chained
Built on the backs of a migrant people.
Beaten and bloodied.
Overworked and underpaid.
Left uncredited and and loved.
And still denied so much.
We owe them that much.
We owe them out voices.
We owe them our fight.

We lay out claim to freedom and bravery,
But men in blue need big boy guns to restrain a kid of color.
We pledge allegiance to a flag, forgetting our bill of rights.
Throwing them away,
An old receipt that's lingered too long.
And so, white men in black suits,
Tell women how and when to be mothers.
If we could just accept ourselves,
and our past.
If we could acknowledge gender, color, size, sexuality,
All a complex component of our collective identity,
Maybe we could grow,
Maybe change wouldn't be so scary

This poem is about:
My country
Our world
