Our Jerseys are Different Colors

A hockey team skates slowly over thin ice.

Lonely but not alone, the goalie stands,

Guarding a meaningless area

That has been assigned temporary meaning.

Her head held high, she takes the puck,

Spins swiftly around,

And scores.

Screams of disappointment and relief divide her teammates.

She has scored on herself,

And she has threatened an objective-appearing subjective standard.

She does not feel bad

Until she realizes that she should feel bad.

She should crave distraction,

And hindrances should be her friend.

Mental health is not only overcoming obstacles

But desiring them, and

Not only desiring them

But designing them.

The crowd, dismayed, goes wild.

There was only one team to begin with.
