In the past there was sorrow.

In the past there was hatred.

In the past there was racism.

And the negroes couldn’t take it.

In the past there was grief.

In the past there was pain.

In the past there was hardship.

And it had one name.

It starts with an ‘I’.

And it ends with an ‘E’.

Hopefully you’re catching this at least subliminally.

It was a road block of those who wished to believe.

It was an obstacle for those who striven to achieve.

It was a taker of hope.

The reaper of dreams.

The undertaker of success.

The breaker of sewed seams.

In the past there were those who wished to put a stop to this.

This word of oppression.

Its name was injustice.

Injustice. Such an easy name to say and such a horrible thing to deal with. We all face it but no one knows better then those who are historically dehumanized. And those who are shut down and destroyed every day.

I one day decided to dig deeper and bring my poetic talent closer to the surface. So a thought about injustice sprung into my conscious from my subconscious and I just decided to continue from there. The only reason why this poem is shorter is because it was one of my first created and I was actually at first just planning on experimenting, but it clearly turned into something more significant than just simple experimentation. To me, creating poetry is like telling a story. There is an infinite amount of combinations that words can be put into and your imagination is your only cage. When writing poetry just simply let it flow from your subconscious in actuality. A good phrase to remember in this case is to not think, just do. Your consciousness is actually the key that locks the greater power of your subconscious. The mind is a nest hosting an infinite amount of universes. Do not be restricted to the box that is just the world we live in and see everyday, hence your conscious mind; thus, think outside of the box. Doing so while putting these universes and stories onto paper and into words, is one of the greatest and most magnificent powers humans had and ever will have.
