One Moment I Will Never Forget

The house is behind us.

The porch light is on.

I hear laughter inside.

It doesn’t matter.

We are outside.

The crickets chirp.

We are all that matters.

His clothes are clean.

The smell of cigarette lingers in his hair

And I can taste it when we’re close.

Stars shine above us.

His hot breath brushes

Across my neck.

Goosebumps form on my arms.

I sit up and see his eyes shining.

I become aware of the couch beneath

And the cold around

I close the small distance between us.
