Ode to my Computer
So many days in that black swivel chair
Clicking on clues, who needs fresh air?
Staring at the screen with its curve like the earth
You’d think I’d been doing this from at least birth
Madeline, Reader Rabbit, Pooh Bear, Spy Fox
Taught me from the time you emerged from your box
Carried in one late night by and old uncle geek
The start up tune hummed and my interest was piqued
From three till the present I’ve been entertained
By the wiles of the Sims whose lives I have made
And the zoos and roller coasters so easily created
From the black swivel chair I so rarely vacated
As middle school came you kept my music sound
Through plenty of afternoons I’d bum around
The pop-punk of that age you’ve always protected
And every bad album I’ve gone and collected
YouTube came quickly and swiftly took over
My evenings, my weekends, I was an internet rover
Neopets, Webkinz, and Gaia came and went
So my internaut status began its ascent
And the world became connected through email and such
Allowing my cousins and I to keep in touch
They were far overseas but felt near as next door
We could communicate constantly, never a bore
The days came and went when I’d tan in the summer
But I always came back when the weather was glummer
And then in September you soon became guard
Of essays and labs leaving my free time scarred
Now I blog and I tweet, store it all in the cloud
Broadcasting my thoughts to an uproarious crowd
A balance I’ve found as time has progressed
But from the computer I’ve been plenty blessed

This piece was witty and funny, and incredibly cute! I love this poem and I thank you for sharing it. I could never rhyme or come up with so many witty lines and I can honestly say you have a knack for it. I would love to read another one of your pieces, is there any particular one you suggest?
Becca.
