Night Drives

Location

Now the sun is finishing its daily retreat.

In the lights of the dashboard I watch

Grey figures fly by outside the window.

Here I try to make out a shape or two, but

The only things seen are illuminated in the headlights.

Drifting in and out of consciousness, I

Reach for my pillow and recline my seat.

Into my dream music from the radio waltzes and turns.

Very quietly I snuggle into my pillow and blanket.

Even with the destination approaching, my mind

Still continues to wander.
