For my mother Diane who in the nineties
Loved her children so.
Though life came with a few struggles,
Her children were the reason she continued on.

Who in the nineties worked multiple jobs, 5
Endured many sleepless nights,
Often thought of giving up,
But knew that by God’s way, everything would be fine.

Who in the nineties lost someone very dear,
And reality soon sunk in. 10
She would have to raise her children
Without the assistance of a man.

For my mother Diane who in the nineties
Never let anything stop her.
She believed there were brighter days to come, 15
And all she had to do was keep moving on.

For my mother Diane who in the nineties grew up fast.
Who was determined to get life on track for the sake of her kids.
She was positive that this wasn’t the life they deserved.
She knew this wasn’t the life they should live. 20

For my mother Diane who in the two thousands got it all together,
Who raised her children properly, with love to last.
Who did a total 360, and let go of the nineties
That was now her past.
