My Loyal Guard

I have a guard

Obedient and spry.

Whether I want him or not,

Is stuck at my side.

Alert and on point,

Eyes peeled to the brow.

The wind is against me,

And he defends anyhow.

The friends I make,

He runs them off.

I tell him “STOP!”

He huffs and scoffs.

Perhaps one day,

The light turns on.

He then sees all

The harm he’s done.

If my guard is loyal,

As he claims.

He’ll run himself off,

I'll never see him again.
