My Letter to Hip-Hop

Location

Hip hop,
What have they done to you?
They have integrated you, had you diluted, pimped out, sold for profit.
They took everything in your pockets, that held value and was capable of utility,
so they could La Di Da Di,
their way to the top and wake up in a new Bugatti.

Hip Hop,
were you not once a way of poetic expression?
Were you not a way of communication for this cultural race that has let the media put your name in disgrace?
We have disregarded that you are the reason we can all relate.
You gave us the light to shine through our darken days, you gave us a name, you paved the way and without you this race could never be eligible for the race.

You were
what tested the minds less fortunate of those who could not get past the days of slaves. Who could not waive the theories that biologists laid.
You bridged that cultural gap.
But you are used as an excuse for the sound of click-clack.
But tick tock,
hip-hop,
you
are being afflicted.

Remember when the only reason fists were thrown in the air were to represent power and resilience?
Don’t forget where you come from.
Highlights of the Harlem Renaissance have crowned you as an outcome.
Blues, Doo-wop, Be-bop, Jazz and Hip-Hop, you all resemble one another just let the beat drop. Let your rhythm and poetry be distinguished.

Hip-Hop,
you are a spirit.
Don’t settle for this Maybach Music it just takes the right set of ears to hear it.

There is no line between classical and Hip-hop because you are classic.
You are the Bach of all the want to be Tupacs
who have shunned you from display by using their iPods to replace the boom box.
Hip-hop,
you will never go out of sight.
It’s just a matter of time, that they let you board that flight
Because at the end of the day it’s not about "keeping it real", it’s about keeping it right.
