Music the Savior
Would you like to know what I need?
Guess what I need fully, and not even partially?
The very thing that keeps blood rushing through my arteries
The rhythms, ideas, and melodies that dictate my actions
It who powers this human contraption
It who gives me passion
It who I’ve fashioned into a weapon of compassion
It who motivates and drives me in the wake of chaos
And who preserves my sanity
Restraining that carnal animal man in me
I’ll tell you candidly, its name is music
A lifesaver amidst this cosmic torrent laced with abhorrent organisms that torment
Guitar strings compose my ligaments
While stream-of-consciousness spoken word verses launch off my tongue so intricate
My heart sings with the hum of a harp
Beating to a metronome heard without a stethoscope
My holy book took the form of an arpeggiator
As I began to spread its message with dedication
I am a walking instrument, intent on the art’s preservation
Chiming audibly while synths blare demonically
Pardon me
But this art form freed me
Believe me
When all else crumbled in thunderous descent, music’s cocoon offered solace
And all of this is factual, I promise
Reared in the nursery of John Lennon and Deep Puddle Dynamics
I only thank music for its role on the planet today
So I salute you on this earthly stage on which we play
