Monsters
It clawed at her.
It punched here and scratched her.
She fought back but
That only fed the monster.
She finally fell as
The creature crouched beside her.
“Finish me off already.”
She spat out blood.
The monster laughed,
“Don’t you get it? I am you.”
She clasped her hands over her ears,
But you can’t shut out your own conscience.
It’s always there.
It’s there in front of me.
Yelling at me.
Slapping me.
Desperately trying to get to me.
Trying to help me.
But it’s hurting me at the same time.
Conflicting thoughts raced through her mind all day.
Her mind was screaming
While her face remained smiling.
Fighting the monsters inside us can kill us.
