Mirror's Complexion
Location
Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
Who’s the barest of them all?
Sight made modest then abashed
Since what I see is not a match;
The one through the looking glass is unattached
Like a fish out of water; certainly not a catch.
Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
From whence I came, do you recall?
Dimensions so intrepid but true by depiction;
Thoughts to be rumored are what they make of me.
Coming from some great work of fiction,
They sing the tale purposely off-key.
Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
Do I look to address or to appall?
Perhaps I confuse the eye of the beholder
Or cause the sore eye to mourn even more,
For beauty lies not with I
If a passing glance ruins its time
By taking chance gone awry;
A jury withheld adjudication, they do cry!
Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
Show me truth instead of attest by lull!
If looks could kill, I’d be veiled by now,
Only with eyes leftover to witness disdain:
No matter the people, low or highbrow
I’ve become the salty jokes’ refrain.
Mirror, Mirror on the wall,
You provoke my mind’s hand to annul
Your carnival trick, a panel that upsets
Beyond the realm of light well twisted;
Transposed frame void embrace offset,
My mind’s made up, you’re made transfixed!
Mirror on the wall!
Evoking frame of mind made only an illusion,
To this I say, exit stage left;
Elude the trap, the four-cornered cage,
Time and esteem, its only expense.
Now we know the latter and the sage:
Keep away Narcissus or face dissolution.
