The truth lies the best.
For example,
Your textbook says he died
as a challenger of the lady giant,
welcomed to the American Coliseum,
but sir, that is not quite the case.
He died
when news came of his family.
Back home,
under clay roof
and cowering upon dusty road.
Speckled,
is the innocent’s drying blood.
Mother and child,
life and significance,
who were being abused by the very men who employed him.
Crippled and ill, the country betrays the patriot,
and so dissolves the border
between the animal
and a man’s mind.
And so you see now,
my historian,
that a certain death came not on Autumn’s ninth,
but several days before it.
