Once I wished upon a star

Because a girl I knew wanted a car

But her mother was pregnant

And her father was just a fragment

Of shrapnel long since buried

Only I knew of the burdens she worried

She used to be so beautiful

Her name even meant so faithful

And I miss her so bad

Because she was all that I had

Who here has anything to gain?

You tell me now, who here deserves this pain?

I found a penny heads-up

And I wished for the queen’s cup

So that she would always feel rich

Even though her father preferred to drink in a ditch

And her mother slept with other men weeping

Only I knew of the dreams she was keeping

She used to make me feel so charmed

Her words and laughter so unharmed

And I miss her so bad

Because she was all that I had

What mercy have we seen from your reign?

You tell me now, who here deserves this pain?

I wasted my three wishes on her

The last one I gave to her brother

And to the little one that was coming

They had no idea they’d soon be running

From a lie and a cheat

And a drunk begging at their feet

My heart used to be so strong

But it all turned out so wrong

And I miss that part of me so bad

Because it was all that I had

What makes you compare me to Cain?

You tell me now, why do I deserve this pain?
