Mama Says...

Mama Says…

By: Skylar Haley Sculley

Mama says, if a boy picks on me it’s because he likes me.

But Mama, if a boy calls me those names he most definitely does not like me.

Mama says, that instead of acting out I should act like a true lady and keep my legs crossed and hands folded.

But Mama, what if they see my tear stained cheeks or quivering lips?

Mama says, that if I really want to find a husband I should give my everything to them.

But Mama, my everything is all I have and if I lose it there is no me.

Mama doesn’t listen. Mama says. And the little girl who was harassed by boys was told it was her fault and that if she would just be quiet and cross her tiny fingers things might go her way.

But Mama says this and Mama says that,

but Mama your little girl can’t take these little boys and she might just slip away.

Did you think about that?

You say she’s dramatic or a little too lose.

But when things get too tight she can’t breathe and she will go purple in the face.

And Mama can’t get embarrassed by a purple faced baby.
