A love I never told of

In love, an infatuation, as deep and rich

as love can ever get… but I couldn’t make any words

come out.

I had trouble breathing.

I’d glance over thinking how beautiful his face was.

He’d sit giggling with me at the bar

Telling jokes that were by far

The worst I had ever heard.

I laughed at them anyways.

The whole perspective on this was dead.

He was leaving for war in a few days.

When the day came, he stopped at the grocery store I worked at.

He smiled, giving me a hug, telling me one last joke.

We paused looking at each other

“I’ll see you when I come back!” He said giving a smile, exiting the store.

“Bye…”

He never made it back.

As he drove away that day,

I wish instead of saying bye, I said ‘I love you, take care!’

All I could do was nod without telling anyone.

And then it becomes 1999, still dreaming in exactly

the same way. I realize it is life with a story to tell.
