The Lone Rider

Location

It is heard near the uplands,
The sweet allure of your song from down below
You wear your chestnut coat so well
Your brown mane shivers in the breeze
Oh majestic mare of mine, your neigh captures my heart
I should perhaps capture you, for you are the target of my affection
However my attempts have all been but rebuked; my lasso of flattery has fallen

I should perhaps search the vastness for a young stallion instead,
For it appears that the mare is not suitable.

I discover that you are standing beside the fence post
You are a colt, as inexperienced as I
Our bond is strong, you have become my best friend
Perhaps it is time for this rider to saddle you?
My approach has not been rejected afterall, so let’s go for a ride
Among shrubs and bushes we trot steadily,
Yet you continue to trip and fumble,
Maybe this love is not for us?

I have found another
A steed, high-spirited and energetic
He must definitely the perfect one
I see that you are swift, maybe this ride will be pleasurable?
I try to stay mounted without a firm grasp on your reins
I urge you to move along slower but you are galloping too fast,
You are more like a bronco, untamed, and I disapprove of your manners
Perhaps it is time I release you?

A gift has been given to me by a friend,
A shy mustang it would seem
What would you say we just walk?
In the heat of midday, chirping can be heard, birds swoop overhead
Rain would be welcome; I know how much you adore the rain
Nightfall is comes and I think it’s about time to return you to your corral.
As I sleep, I think about day and can’t wait for the next
But I come to find that you have left and it is my fault for leaving the gate open

Perhaps it is time I take a break from horse-back riding?
