Listen

When I ask you to listen, and you start to give me advice, you have not done what I asked.

When I ask you to listen to me, and you begin to tell me why I shouldn't feel that way, you are trampling on my feelings.

When I ask you to listen to me and you feel you have to do something to solve my problems, you have failed me, strange as that may seem.

LISTEN! All I asked was that you listen, not talk or do, just listen. And I can do for myself. I'm not helpless, maybe discouraged and faltering, but not helpless.

Please just listen. Don't make matters worse for trying to make things the right way, your way, and only making me feel worse than what I was before.

Why do you think you have to correct me every time you feel the need to do so? Why do you feel the need to consult me every time I say something you think is irrational when all I'm trying to do is tell you my emotions?

I would rather be the hard-stoned, cold-hearted person you think I am than to speak with you.

I would rather walk for miles in the blazing hot sun than to speak with you.

I would rather tie a millstone around my neck and throw myself into the sea than to speak with you.

So many things are that I do wrong, but not a single thing to make you proud.

But when the time comes for me to talk to you, I'll speak, and when I do, listen.

Don't force me to talk, don't hit me to talk. Please, don't give me another reason to not want to talk to you.

Listen, and if you want to talk, then wait your turn and I'll Listen to you.

Your poem is very strong and straight to the point, I love it. I can personally relate to this on MANY levels. When you ask for people to listen, they want to console your issues. Yet you just want to vent, have someone hear those thoughts out in the open and hear your statements without opinions or judgement from others. Keep up the great work! ;) Looking forward to reading more of your work.
