The Life of a Sailor
I heard the public service announcement, I was warned...
Don't leave the harbor they said, and through the storm
I went, sailing into a dismal relationship,
I sent, my true loved ones goodbyes...
I'm off to be a sailor now,
whatever that means...
Off to happy sails on the seas,
Godspeed...
My compulsive complacency severed ties,
and I thought I was anchored to something...
but now I'm slowly drifting away...
They kept telling me to stay...
But I was so ready to be a sailor,
whatever that meant to me, then...
I think I shipped out
to sail away from who I was meant to be, then...
And now, nothing's meant to be as it was,
attention on deck, carry on, or as you were,
It's always Ma'am or always sir, or never sir,
if you work for a living...
How much work have I given to someone else's dream?
I barely sleep, but I still dream...
The life of a sailor,
or whatever that's meant to me until now,
I was scheduled to pull into port,
I think I'm still out...
I still remember the day,
But I was SO READY!
Can't you feel the waves?
Nothing's steady...
