I watched the day pass
Through a window on the 5th floor.
At 6pm the sun was out,
Students played on the volleyball courts,
Groups of girl gossiped on their way to eat,
And cars stopped for pedestrians.
The ongoing debacle of life rushed ahead
And here I sit -
A bystander inspecting them like ants in a case.
Only to realize that I am the one enclosed in glass.
Trapped in the confines of education
Rather than learning to be educated.
Teachers teaching students to be studious
Until they regurgitate fact after fact
Only to empty their minds when the class is over.
Releasing a load of crap onto their resumes
For something they don’t even like.
Don’t even love. It is
Society killing the bud of passion before it can bloom.
Telling me what’s right and wrong.
Forcing me to the borders of this glass box.
Suffocating me in a stuffy library for endless nights.
Slowly encasing me with its poison.
Until finally, I stop wriggling under the pressure
And embrace the life I can’t even call mine.
