At Last
At Last
Once upon a time
There lived an average girl.
She was Asian and American.
She excelled in high school,
And didn’t care for school.
She made them proud, her parents.
But she lost it all, her time.
College crept by,
As did the freedom bus.
Friends came and went,
Strangers wept and passed.
She stands still like the palm trees,
The wind blows firm like the monsoon.
The raging sun lights her path,
A civil war she fought,
But a bright moon she sees.
