Knowing

For me to claim I know you;

Would be a lie through and through;

The only you I happen to know;

Is the one you let me to;

And I know it isn't all yourself;

No one ever quite shows this;

And it may be there's a couple of things;

I might have happened to miss;

I don't know all your secrets;

But you don't know all of mine;

Yet I know the way you tilt your head;

And smile at me all the time;

I know the way you like your drinks;

And the way you like to dress;

I know your favorite sports teams;

And the things that you will miss;

I know you think you care too much;

And you'll hurt me bad someday;

But that's one thing I know for sure;

You would never be that way;

I know you quietly go around;

Encouraging everyone;

And you never take quite enough credit;

When at last the day is done;

I've seen the way you hang your head;

When you think no one is looking;

And it kills me just to know;

I'll never know for what you're searching;

You've go that sweet kind smile;

That tells me that I'll never know;

The many pains you've been through;

Nor the heartaches that you've known;

I know there's been a time:

When you have felt betrayed:

And I'll do my best I hope you know;

So you'll never feel this way;

But I'll stay right here at your side;

Through the rainstorms and the fire;

Because is there's one thing I know about you;

It's that you don't know me either.
