Kiss From a Rose

I passed a nearby tower

Guarded by a group of

Valiant knights

One of them meeting my gaze

Dancing among the flowers

I graze away like wandering cattle

Then the knight in shining armor

Shows up on his horse

Like an angel in the snow

He shines upon my face

Like the rays of the winters

And the mountains

His widened eyes

The rose he gives to me

As I reach out and with him,

I ride on his horse

To distant lands,

Escaping day by day

Night by night

We were never royalty

Never married,

Yet I sit by the throne

The snow grows colder

Yet with the warmth of his love

He covers me like a blanket

Then once the snow melts

The moon bleeds, the day breaks its heart

The war calls him back to the tower,

The castle he loyally devoted himself to

And it's not until in the churchyard

That I see him again

As I wander around,

Looking for my lost coin,

A marker with his name

And the rememberance of his bravery

Pinpoints where he permanently resides

With the comfort of underground nature

With Death nursing him like a child

I bow down,

As though I'm being knighted

Pray for Mary to preserve his kindred soul

Then, as though the Lord is trying to tell me

That his soul is nearby,

The sky opens up its arms,

Watering the plants that spring to life

And although everything is darkened

With the gloom of loss

A rose, that from underneath

His soul hands to me

Causes the world to shine

And the rainbow of promise

To radiate from the clouds

As I'm reminded of his caress

That's like a tender

Kiss from a rose.
