Katelyn and Elliot
Her name was Katelyn.
She was a short, boyish girl. Her hair was blonde and her eyes were blue. Her hands were feminine, if anything about her was.
Her name was Elliot.
Average height, brown hair, brown eyes. She liked to think she was much more tomboy than she probably really was. Was never (if she was, she would never admit to it out loud) gay and never had these sort of feelings for a girl before.
It was Elliot that fell first though and it was so sudden, she didn’t even realize it at first. She tried to push it away because maybe she just thought she was attractive, like looking at another pretty girl. Through time, it was starving for eye contact. That’s when she realized it wasn’t that kind of attraction. It was like waking up in a fairytale and seeing a girl worthy of being called Princess. Or maybe Prince.
Elliot thought she could be the prince for her, or maybe Katelyn would be the prince to her. Either way, she wanted to treat her like she would be her everything, like she was royalty.
It wasn’t enough to spur her into action, to take matters into her own hands and say the thoughts that were stirring in her mind to Katelyn. It was enough, however, to terrify Elliot. At the same time, it excited her. She had never felt feelings that were so thrilling. It was electrifying. The single touch of skin was burning in its own sense. The cologne Katleyn wore – she wore cologne, that was enough to make Elliot weak in the knees – was now a smell Elliot came to recognize and almost hate. Hate it because it would never be on her own shirt, it would never be close enough for her to hold onto.
So Elliot thought of Katelyn. All of the time, surprising enough to her. She thought of her when she woke up and right before she faded into sleep. She was there when she heard her name, heard her voice - or what sounded like her voice - and whenever someone mentioned someone who was described like her.
Katelyn however had no idea that Elliot was feeling and thinking like this. She had no clue that the girl she only saw at school was living and breathing off the eye contact that they held; eye contact that would only fuel Elliot’s feelings and emotions.
It wasn’t creepy. It was normal. It’s the same way you feel when you see your hallway crush, or the really attractive person at the store. You know they are way out of your league and that you’ll never have anything, but it is enough to keep you wondering about ‘what ifs’ and what could’ve been.
Elliot tried to ignore them, constantly, by journaling the feelings then setting them on fire. She didn’t like that she couldn’t have Katelyn. It would drive her completely insane. It was like some fever dream. She actually liked it, like a memory she didn’t even have.
