Just the way life works
In the world of white houses, red doors, and white picket fences,
I was there,
Black girl in the suburbs living her best life,
Always taught to work twice as hard as other students because...
That's just the way life works
Walking into predominately white school,
I was there,
Seeing the difference between me and them was to say the least, nothing new,
Knowing their privilage, nothing new,
That's just the way life works,
I made a dent in the normal and worked twice as hard
Seeing my childhood disappear with the reality of this world,
That's just the way life works.
