Joy Lies Latent in the Gateways

Location

Deafness or blindness:
"Choose one," they say.
I would choose deafness
on any given day.

Goodbye to melodies,
goodbye to glass crashing.
Goodbye to whispers,
goodbye to birds splashing.

You ask me why
I would much rather see,
when music and speech,
after all, deem us free.

For art? For reading?
For sunsets in may?
Mountains of nepal,
or the mist of sea spray?

I’ll give you one reason,
though it is unwise;
I cannot hear
the color of your eyes.
