Joy and Purpose

As I turned the corner,

there stood a man,

aided by his friend,

a drunk as drunk gets.

He couldn't walk.

He couldn't talk.

He coudn't think.

He was lost in an endless pit of self-destruction.

His eyes were as bleak as the darkest night.

There was no hope in those eyes.

No love or joy to share.

No promise for a better tomorrow.

The only thing tomorrow promised was pain and sadness.

His body, called by God to love and fulfill a greater purpose,

couldn't even support itself.

His own two hands had dragged him to a dreadful place beyond reality,

a place filled with only tears and depression

He had tricked himself.

He had killed himself.

I can only pray God speaks to his heart and shows him true joy and purpose.
