The Journey of a Mixed Kid
I am a Realist,
But also an Idealist,
Because when the world is at its worst,
That is when I am at my best.
One son,
Was done,
By two parents
Of two colors
Yellow or white?
Can you "prease" be polite?
"Gook" says the bully.
"Oriental" says his Gramps.
I ain't a friggin' rug!
Must I pick a side?
They did it for me.
A member of the yellow tide.
For many years I wish I had died.
But whenever I saw other colors,
Judged by the cruel others,
Brown, pink, tan and black.
I will always have their back.
No matter how hard the bullies try
They will never see me cry
When they hit me, I hit twice as hard.
I never start fights, but I always end them.
Because I am a Realist,
But also an Idealist,
Because when the world is at its worst,
That is when I am at my best.
Walk softly and carry a big stick,
That's my kind of click,
Where I can flick my bic,
Blow a smoke and tell a joke.
I fell for a belle,
Chemistry in chemistry class,
She was a break from my personal hell.
All good things come to an end,
Let's just be friends.
But I love her too much,
So I'll always be her friend, until the end.
Because I am a Realist,
But also an Idealist,
Because when the world is at its worst,
That is when I am at my best.
School is cool,
Without it you're a tool,
I find that the more I read,
The more people want me to lead.
So that will be my career.
My voice from the capitol
is what you're going to hear.
The university is where I thrive,
I'm seen for my character, not my skin
My friends help me survive,
Because they want to see me win.
My friends say I'm the realist,
Doubters call me the idealist,
But when the world throws me it's worst
That's when you'll see me at my best.
