Jolly Roger's Waltz

I sat up in bed and stared at the wall.

Not a single sound mumbled from the hall.

My mind was raging with inspiration

While my lack of sleep brought on great agitation.

I finally forced myself down to lie

When all my thoughts became ‘why?’

Not only ‘why’, but ‘what if?’ and ‘why not?’

My breathing slowed with every thought.

My worries of achieving greater things

Melted away, and I was coquettishly dancing with pirate kings.

A tyrant from afar rose his sword slashed at my king’s hip.

I shed a tear for the mutilated man and pulled my own sword to my grip.

Amid a fearsome storm we fought.

My pirate king rose with a face of fraught.

He pulled out his sword menacingly and smiled.

The opposing man chuckled and his eyes grew wild.

And with a sudden movement his blade penetrated my heart.

All faded to black and I woke with a start.

Not a single sound mumbled from the hall,

So I sat up in bed and stared at the wall
