wpimentel16's verse:
I come from Providence
The biggest city, in the smallest state,
I’m from Rhode Island
I’m from turning corners and dead end
I’m from late night shootings and day light break-ins
I’m from where murders aren’t taken care of anymore
Where police take everything easy, and judges give the wrong sentence to the wrong people
Where people be at the wrong place at the wrong time, depending on your location
Where advice for your own good becomes the reason why you’re still alive.
From these long nights full of tears and confessions because the mind and heart can only take so much
Where suicide is used to get attention because your “depression” isn’t as serious as you think
Where nice kids are being killed or failing in life because they are around the wrong group of people
Where people don’t know their origins but they know where they’re going
When your pain is covered with a smile like nothing’s going on
Where you cover sadness by weed and drinks
Where your “good times” are getting fucked up and not remembering what happened
When your best friend becomes your worst enemy
Where loyalty isn’t anything anymore because pussy or dick over power your feelings
Where respect is lost because you kissed your ex’s friend
I’m from bullshit that fears over power you because your self-esteem is just that low
I see more suicide and cut scars than smiling faces
I’m from that place where love doesn’t matter because families rather see you sad than focused on a good person
I’m from a place that doesn’t define where your future stands
This is a place most people are ashamed of
But this is what made me the person I am today
I’m proud to show you where I come from.
MVP-Most Valuable Poet's verse:
Fat Joe once quoted
I’m the Bronx where shit happens
Same place that is known to be the murder capital of New York
Same borough where if someone turns the corner, evil lurks ready to strike
Day light shootings, and late night break- ins is becoming the normative
Where the landscape is full of desolation where voices continue to remain silent in fear of not being a snitch
Knowing lives are at stake
Robberies have been on the rise, and the nearest precinct is two blocks away from where I live
I didn’t have a problem with the policy stop and frisk
Now that it retired due to poor usage, more lives are at risk
Listening to wisdom of powerful advices is the reason you’re still alive
And not one less person to worry about where nobody cares
Dreadful nights of violent rage, and grueling confessions, one must wonder is there any peace that lies outside of their immediate surroundings
Suicide thoughts becomes the entertainment that doesn’t require laughter
But a reality that sheds tears, and dies of broken hearts
Innocent children are poisoned with misguided fantasies about the life of a gangsta
Where you cover layers of a smile that hides suffering on the inside
Suppress your feelings with weed mix with chemicals that exacerbates numbness to your soul that is begging for you to stop
The good times one cherish is forecast with destructive memories nobody wants to remember
You best friend becomes your worst enemy
Loyalty is said, but not meant, intoxicated with sexual manipulations that infiltrated friendships to be buried in graves with no flowers
Respect is gone when you kissed your best friend’s partner
Smile is fogged with anger
No wonder New York is the unhappiest place to live
Despite of that
Where I’m from doesn’t define my future
I know where I’m going
I wouldn’t know where I’m going, unless I know where I been
Where I been has made me the man I am today
