Inside Out
By now in life you have faced some demons;
Learned the corners and closets to avoid.
You coddle your innocence
In the soft and cuddly things around you.
But, my dear sweet child,
there’s something you should know.
There are two sides to every closet;
Something you will learn as you grow.
Those curious whispers and echoing calls
Have brought you back to that infamous closet.
Follow those emphatic beacons.
Expeditiously open those doors.
…..
Society shouts, “the monster escapes!”
The church yells, “sinner!”
This darkness, loneliness, and fear aren’t forever;
This too shall pass.
…..
You look back upon your safe space
Remembering the soft and cuddly things.
Hidden in that closet
Your wings lacked space to grow.
You are free from your confinement,
With a whole new set of challenges.
Your true form awaits you.
My dear sweet child,
there’s something you should know.
There are two sides to every closet;
Something you will learn as you grow.
