If Winter Comes...

Standing in the brisk morning air wondering,

If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

It first comes in chilly nights-

Freezing the leaves to cracking stones.

Wondering all the while at the decay,

If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

It comes down in light flurries,

Venturing into the storm that turned water into snowed-in inches.

Wondering all the while at the bright white outside your window,

If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

As months pass in what seems like days,

The days of heavy coats and warm fires,

The appeal for only a sweatshirt comes upon you in the breeze.

All the while wondering,

If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
