If Only

This is the scripture
Of the fallen souls,
Locked away in the chaotic darkness.
This is the story of
Wayward and Vagrant bodies,
Tossed around and battered
By the tides of Love.
Their voices cry out,
Reaching for an end
To the ceaseless, insistent,
Pain of Living.
We hear them calling,
pleas echo in the night.
Impossible to block out as
Much as they are to answer.
If love is what this world’s about,
I have seen many who think they have it figured out
Only to find the earth fall,
Crumbling out from underneath them.
Dropped into the dark tombs
Of their own thoughts and restless hopes,
Consumed by the simple words
“If Only”.

Our world
