If I Could Change One Thing

If I could change one thing,

I would let no one

feel like

the only one.

All it takes

is one person,

one moment,

one thing.

A book called The Outsiders

made me a fighter.

Read it again,

now I’m a writer.

Armed with words,

I make the voiceless heard.

Words will hit like arrows

and explode like grenades.

From painful truths

will better people be made.

Adults will

see the young.

The young will

save their youth.

The young will have

my words as proof.

Proof that life is hard

like a rock

and soft

like feathers.

That loneliness

doesn’t last forever.

That being you

isn’t wrong

even if

you don’t belong.

One is

the loneliest number

I know,

but why should it be so?

We could pour our hearts

into a steaming cup.

Let others drink it

and warm up.

Then let that warmth

become the desire

to inspire.

With enough fire,

we can become

the stars and sun.

We can glow

and show others

they’re not the only one.
