If I can only save ONE....

If I Can Only Save ONE...

54 million and more..

Tiny hearts STOPPED.

No chance, no voice, no choice

Lungs that never learned to breathe, lips that never learned to speak.

You were our heroes of tomorrow. Our teachers and presidents, our ones who would finally cure cancer and stop AIDS.

You were a story yet unwritten, a life yet unlived.

She didn't know what to do-about you. She was so afraid. Afraid of the stares and glares the whispering and wondering...

She didn't know you were more than a

Surprise. Mistake. Accident.

She didn't know you were

Human. Formed by the fingers of God. Alive.

They told her you were only a ball of cells, nameless tissue, faceless FACT.

She bought the Lie.

Beating heart stopped. Breath stifled. Life GONE.

Blank Pages. Dramas, comedies, romances. Begun but never finished.

Your nameless father missed-bedtime stories, bubble baths, tiny fingerprints on windows looking out into a world ready to receive you with:

Muddy puddles and bugs

And ice cream.

She never got to feel your tiny fingers wrapped around hers. Your downy head never got to rest on her shoulder.

She never got to tell you why the sky is blue or

where the sun hides in the day

how birds fly

Do the angels know? Or do you have to ask God?

Do you ever touch His hands?

They made you, they formed you, they hold you:

Little sunbeam, that never shown, little seed never sown.

You are a treasure, a Dream.

I wish you could have Lived. And breathed. And laughed. And snuggled.

There were arms that would have held you, lips that would have kissed you.

Two hands to hold yours in the dark.

They lost their dream or could not have one

You could have been the Answer

to their prayers.

I am so SORRY. I wish that I could turn back time and change the law that started this Great

HOLOCAUST.

We fight for free choice, rights and voice and give you none.

They save the trees and pop cans

Cherish environment and forget that trees need climbers.

And swings and forts.

And pop bottles need

Thirsty little lips.

And the world needs children to teach us to hope and dream and believe in

God and

The way

The truth

And the LIFE.

Let me be your voice to a world that is

Deaf

Your eyes to a world that has gone

Blind.

Your pulse to

Hearts that have grown cold...or never knew the truth about you, precious

Unborn Baby.

I believe that, the poem is eloquent and inspired. I wish that people who were pro-choice, would stop for a moment to realize that the rest of us see millions of legalized murders commited because of convenience. I pray abrtion is outlawed someday. May God bless you.

EDrakeDarklighter

Thank you, Emele! I agree with you; I hope abortion will some day be stopped too. May God bless you too.

I don't agree with abortion, but I also dont agree with "outlawing it." If you want America to be "free" you have to accept freedoms you don't neccesarily agree with. It's something we must all do. And I loved the words of your poem, and I agree that abortion is a terrible thing, don't get me wrong- but what if you were raped by your father at 9 years old? Would abortion be okay then? What if you got pregnate and it was going to kill you AND the baby? Would abortion be okay then? I think pro-life people have good arguments and bad ones. I agree people should not get abortions "just because"  a baby is not convient. I do think that should be illegal somehow, but you cant say that every abortion is a terrible sin God would smite a woman for, because you never know what could have happened.

EDrakeDarklighter

Hi dsission1294! Thank you for liking my poem! I agree with you that in a free country we have to put up with things we don't agree with; everyone should allowed to be free as long as their version on freedom does not infringe on other people's freedom. Doesn't abortion then take away the freedom of the baby to live? Abortion is definitely a touchy topic. In the case of a nine year old, don't you think that  it would be very rare that a nine year old would be able to have children? And I will admit that in a situation that both the mom and baby were going to lose their life that abortion would look like the right thing to do. I still struggle with that. However, I still stand my conviction that abortion is wrong in every way. Unless we are the Creator of life, we have no authority to take that life away.

I love that people of all views are weighing in! This is cool! Please keep all comments coming. This is becoming a very  thought provoking discussion.

Convenience..? So when my good friend's mother had to give-up her child whom would have been born extremely handicapped, and could have killed the mother, that was for "convenience"..? Until you're in the position, how dare you bastardize the people in a postion you've yet/will possibly never have to experience.

The only people "bashing" pro-choice, pro-do what is right for you'ers, are mostly women. In an age where ignorance isn't bliss, you'd think women would be the ones to be pro-choice supporters. This is so beyond discouraging to see, especially coming from my fellow women.

The poem is great, writing was unique, but to those whom are quick to play the "God card"..

James 4:11-12

"Do not speak evil against one another, brothers. The one who speaks against a brother or judges his brother, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?"

Our Father knows in our hearts what we deem necessary. Abortion is sometimes the answer, and to come to that conclusion of "convenience", once more, is a direct-assumption. To go about having sex without proper avoidance methods is in fact idiocy in intself, unless planned. With that being said, I don't believe in those whom deem abortion after abortion, "because it's my right", as ethical. Those situations are morally wrong, and the doctor performing the procedures time and time again on this type of patient should have the right to say "no". But why generalize all whom have this procedure? That, my friend, IS wrong.

Doctor Faustus

Good day Christians. This is for those of you who have even a slightly open mind.

I want to lay some logic down for you so you can better improve your pro-life arguments.

So this is going to involve some simple if then logic, nothing fancy.

If God exists (which we will assume for the sake  of argument, we will also assume the bible is true)

Then He is almighty and has the power to do anything he so desires.

Then if God hated abortion, he would do what he did to those who have previously angered him and cause frogs to rain down from the sky (poor frogs), or infect those guilty with plague. Or kill them in some way.

Since for some off reason this hasn't happened, we can then say that God does not care about abortion, at least not enough to do anything about it (himself). Seeing as God locked a lion's jaw just to save Daniel, yet does nothing for all the dead babies it appears he really doesn't want them alive.

Furthermore, if god has a plan for everyone and everything, as most American christians believe.

Then if a baby is aborted, it was god's plan for that baby to be aborted. Think about it he's all knowing and all powerful, thus if something he didn't like was going to happen, he wouldn't let it happen.

Even this post, by that logic, would not have happened unless he wanted it to.

I don't believe such thing, however as you can see using god as the cornerstone of your argument  takes away from your argument, because if he cared so much it wouldn't happen.

In the future refrain from this and you will find yourself winning more debates instead of being mocked. It is much more compelling to focus on the pathos that the murder of a child brings, than trying to appeal to ethos by saying that's what god wants. That might work at your church, but to someone who is pro-life (especially if they are atheist) it will fall through the cracks and you will lose. By focusing on the emotional tragedy rather than religion you appeal to a much larger audience.

I'm not trying to be judgmental or ridicule your religion, I'm fine with religious people. The only thing I am ridiculing is how you approached your argument. I would call it constructive criticism if anything. I am by no means a genius, just well versed in detecting inconsistencies in logic.

Sorry if I offended you, and I wish you the best.

EDrakeDarklighter

Hi Dr. Faustus! Thank you for taking the time to comment on my poem! I really appreciate it, even though our viewpoints differ. I have responded in blue or blue bold and put your words in black bold italic.

You started by saying,

If God exists (which we will assume for the sake of argument, we will also assume the bible is true)”

This is important, and I appreciate you establishing a starting point which both sides can access. Though your application of this starting point is inadequate, your desire for clarity is an important and considerate step. Too often people find themselves talking past one another, so thank you for this.

Then He is almighty and has the power to do anything he so desires. Then if God hated abortion, he would do what he did to those who have previously angered him and cause frogs to rain down from the sky (poor frogs), or infect those guilty with plague. Or kill them in some way.

Here, the conclusion that you reach by using this is false because it fails to include a thoroughly Biblical view of God. As your starting point was accepting the God of the Bible, then in order for your argument to be truly logical, you would need to account for the presuppositions, meaning how the God of the Bible acts. This is the point at which the logic of your argument breaks down.

This is no small point, because any system is only as useful as it coheres with reality. If it were, indeed, the case that God's actions within the Biblical narrative were generally and fully summarized in the following: "He would do what he did to those who have previously angered him and cause frogs to rain down from the sky (poor frogs), or infect those guilty with plague. Or kill them in some way," then your conclusion that follows would be correct! But this premise is false because it doesn't offer an honest view of God in the Bible, or even within the Old Testament.

Even within the most famous demonstrations of God's wrath, the conquering of Canaan, His action is preceded by four hundred years of his patience, as seen in the following, "And they (the Israelites) shall come back here in the fourth generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete." (Genesis 15:16). Here God's wrath upon those who oppose Him is inevitable, but delayed, because to act at that point would not suit His purposes. He is giving the Amorites time to turn from their evil and acknowledge Him.

I would cite as a contemporary example Abraham Lincoln's and Robert E. Lee's separate assessment of the Civil War. Both of these men understood that God will put up with unrighteousness for quite a while, because their view of God was based on the Biblical witness. They also attributed the immense suffering brought upon the United States by the Civil War as God, in Lincoln's own words-bringing His judgment in His time:

" if God wills that [the war] continue, until all the wealth piled by the bond-man's two hundred and fifty years of unrequited toil shall be sunk, and until every drop of blood drawn with the lash, shall be paid by another drawn with the sword, as was said three thousand years ago, so still it must be said "the judgments of the Lord, are true and righteous altogether."Psalms 19:9

There is an even more important point to be made within the proposed framework of your argument. Romans 3:24-26 makes clear that your view of God, Who has a moral obligation to an immediate and thorough justice, can and does show patience towards the unrighteous, because of Jesus Christ. God can be merciful towards those who hate Him, because Christ took the, as you point out, necessary punishment for those hateful acts. In other words, Jesus took the frogs for them. And God now looks on those who side with Jesus as covered by the perfectness of Jesus.

So when you write the following,

Since for some off reason this hasn't happened, we can then say that God does not care about abortion, at least not enough to do anything about it (himself). Seeing as God locked a lion's jaw just to save Daniel, yet does nothing for all the dead babies it appears he really doesn't want them alive.

you are failing to take into account either God's patience with us, or, and much more importantly, that Christ paid the consequences for evil, so that God doesn't need to act every moment to right a wrong.

This is important for you. Goodness, laws, fairness, even logic necessitates an objective point to be based on, one which is lacking in the worldview of the agnostic. If we are just products of random mutations, made by amoral, undiscerning selective forces, then on what do we based even our logic? Because it seems to work? If an eternal Being chooses to act in one situation to have a desired effect, and chooses to not act in another situation to have a desired effect (which is necessary within a Biblical framework), then how do we look over a situation without that perspective? The answer is: we can’t.

"Furthermore, if god has a plan for everyone and everything, as most American christians believe. Then if a baby is aborted, it was god's plan for that baby to be aborted. Think about it he's all knowing and all powerful, thus if something he didn't like was going to happen, he wouldn't let it happen. Even this post, by that logic, would not have happened unless he wanted it to."

This, again, offers an inadequate view of the Biblical witness, a sound view of which is the foundation for your reply. God establishing how things are going to come to pass does not exclude free creatures doing evil things. An evil action can bring about a desired consequence or reaction, even while the mind of the actor is making the evil that he wanted, happen. How often have we, in our own lives, committed major errors, which hurt us in some way but which brought about a proper perspective for the future. This same principle may be applied to this argument. There needn't be any difference or contradiction, as we can see in our own experience.

However as you can see using god as the cornerstone of your argument takes away from your argument, because if he cared so much it wouldn't happen.

I believe I have begun to demonstrate the opposite, but I would love to continue this discussion, if you are willing. There is a great deal to say about the proper emotional response to an injustice, and how that is impossible if there is no God, and whether or not “human rights” has any meaning if there is no God, and so on. God himself is putting up with both you and me right now, because He wants you and me to listen to Him. So let’s continue!

Here's a question to throw out there: If there is no God is abortion okay? And I would answer: It Absolutely is! If we are all just organic matter that will one day die and pass out of existence then, why is killing an unborn baby wrong?

Thank you so much for weighing in! Please keep posting! This is becoming a very deep conversation that has great potential for digging into really important questions. I appreciate all the readers and posters. Keep all comments coming!-EvelynDrakeDarklighter
