I think...

Location

I

Am told

By TV

And by my peers

What to think, but not

How to think. You

Must teach me

How to

Think.

You

Teach me

How to think,

Whether that be

Independently,

Or to spit back

Mindless words

Others

Speak.

When

Not pushed

I will be

Lazy, skating

By on textbook ice,

Thoughts and ideas

Freeze beneath

Dormant

Spring.

If

You push

I will come

Alive and fight,

And I might challenge

And prove you wrong,

But I learned

How to

Think.

To

Challenge:

This art form

Has disappeared

From far too many

Classrooms and schools,

I admit,

But not

All.

So

Let me

Challenge you:

I want to learn.

Don’t let me skate by.

Push me, shake me

Frustrate me

Melt this

Ice…

And

Watch me

Enter the

Blackboard jungle,

And learn to struggle

With my students

Teaching them

How to

Think.

I liked the shape and flow of the poem. Also the way you made me think about how teachers dont teach us how to be, only what we can be. And at an early age we dont realize it, we dont comprehend the fact that it will stick with us throughout our lives until we learn for ourselves how to be what we want. This is inspiring! :)
