I. Puzzle Pieces

Puzzle Pieces

The connection here is lost, unruly and static.

Trying desperately to make it work,

like putting puzzle pieces

in the wrong place.

This picture isn’t quite what it was supposed to be.

We clash, like day and night.

Why do they say that opposites attract?

Only a few remain standing,

like dominoes on the living room floor.

The rest are scattered,

finding new homes and better games to play.

We are old but still so young.

That’s why we forget that stars can’t fit into squares,

and being mean to each other

doesn’t indicate a sense of love

or belonging.

At night we wreak our own kind of havoc,

on minds, bodies, and souls.

We hide inside of bottles

and cry for our lost homes.
