I Love Guns

I Love Guns:
A Slam Poem

I love guns
I love the barbed-wire perimeter that surrounds my apartment
I love the Raiders-style boulder, the rat traps on the carpet
I love the blade in my cargos and the knives in my kitchen
But head and shoulders above I love my ammunition

I love guns
I see eyes in the dark of the alleyway trying to take my gal away
I see rabid dogs behind iron logs, but my trigger takes their growl away
I hear the president’s whispers of a plot wrapped in sinister
Bent on disarming the farmer, the minister

I love guns
I did not flinch nor move an inch when I saw the daily bleedings
Red ruined not the page for me during my morning readings
Columbine to me is fine–I see that Christ is coming
We’ll bicker and bite and start again. The machine continues running
